Education and Mental Health

Two bouts of anxiety, panic attacks and clinical depression (expressed as physical manifestations) while working in the Education Sector spoke volumes to me about how any person can "care too much" and should the only means of efficacy available is to walk away - then that's the route a person takes.  It's unfortunate that awareness and empathy no longer seem a required skill set in workplace leadership.
An Educational career is not about being "adult" , "stoic", or a "team player", it's about completing the mission of Education: to identify students' needs (deficits in reaching success as an adult being) and helping students fulfill those needs in their own time and ways. By the way, great Educators are always Students.

Cephla-chemical use in Education

We all know that LEARNING is a result of the "right" brain chemistry.
What if the correct cocktail of chems could be isolated and reproduced which proved as effective as six repetitions of factual knowledge, plus enhance the positive emotional response to that knowledge?
Imagine how accelerated Learning could become and how much more Cross-Disciplinary work could accomplished. Imagine being cognitively able to be encyclopedic, not because everything is written down and somewhat accessible (once the advertizing sites are screened out) and "specialty academic journals" are produced under free to air offerings of Universities and Industries.
There would still be a place for specialists, they could still have their ivory towers of power and control. However, those who excel at Generalism and Connectivity, those who have the Big Picture Tendency could also have a value and presence within the Ivory towers and a affinity with fine-grained, political grant pursuits.
No one is without their biases and special interests, but a Generalist who would specialise in seeing the connections, intersections, and complementary approaches, would be welcomed to SYNERGISE among the finer and finer splinters of academic disciplines and the schools of philosophy and practice nested inside the disciplines.

The whole idea of the Renaissance soul (spirit) has been demoted in favor of  tight focus, divide and conquer, which isolates each one so there can be no collective strength from cross-connectivity and synergy among disparate beliefs, philosophies, agenda or  dreams. Looking at Not-For Profit advocacy groups, one realizes that by being small a group may reap what profits may be gathered, but if committed relationships existed instead of just 'networks', each entity would amplify the message instead of disintegrating it.

Second Plane - it's a state of mind

Dotressa Maria Montessori proposed that human development starts with four planes. each of the planes is seven years long.

  • first plane is conception to 6 years,
  • second plane is ages 6-12 years,
  • third plane is ages 12-18 years
  • fourth plane is ages 18-24 years.
Strangely enough these age groups mirror the Educational Establishments' and Psychologists' conventions of human developmental eras. Could it be that Dotoressa Montessori foreshadowed their thinking, e.g. did Piaget borrow heavily from Montessori? One of the difficulties with Dotoressa's work is the referencing conventions of her period were much less structured and rigorous than those of today. This gives evidence to those academics and "experts" who reject her work because it is documented anecdotally and not 'statistically' validated.

Might, instead, should Dotoressa be recognised as the original Action Researcher? She was in there with the children and the practitioners capturing many of their responses, over a half a century beginning in 1890. There is some photographic evidence, but no lab notes have been made publically available. (Drat!)
